My Endocrinology Elective

  • Brooklyn, NY

  • Elective rotation #1 - 3 weeks

  • Services: Inpatient and Clinic

    • Inpatient: Meet on the floors on Mondays and Tuesdays at 11pm for student presentations and inpatient rounds

    • Clinic: Clinic days are Thursday and Friday. Fridays are only for diabetes management and Thursdays are for everything else. Half of the students attend one clinic day and the other half attend the other day. You pick a resident to work with and follow them, helping them with H&Ps.

  • Tools: Stethoscope, notebook, pen

  • Useful Phone Apps: Epocrates (helps with drug names, indications, dosing), UptoDate (information), UW on the go

ABOUT
Me
  • Overall thoughts: I highly recommend this elective for multiple reasons: a lot of time to study (which was true for me when studying for Step 2 NBME comprehensive exam and CK) and tests you on diagnostic studies for Endocrinology (something I was weak at). The attending is very knowledgeable and very nice. He will ask you questions but it is only going to benefit you in the long run. The residents are also very knowledgeable and are willing to help students.
